You usually lose when the grid locks, not because the last swipe was wrong, but because a few moves earlier the biggest tile left its corner or a random up-down shuffle broke your chain. Use the checklist below each turn. If merge rules still feel fuzzy, read 2048 rules first, then try lines on the Play 2048 board.
Corner Anchor
Pick a corner—often bottom-left or bottom-right—and keep your current max tile there as long as possible. Once a large value drifts to the center or opposite corner, space collapses quickly.
One Increasing Chain
Along the edge touching that corner, stack values small to large: 2, 4, 8, 16, and so on. Avoid wedging a larger tile into the middle of the chain; if you do, undo or change direction instead of swiping blindly the other way.
Space and Direction
Keep at least one or two empty cells for merges and recovery. Favor two main swipe directions (for example left and down) and use the opposite directions sparingly. Before swiping up or toward the open side, check that you will not pull the corner tile away.
Hints and Undo
Use hints when the board feels stuck, not every turn. Undo rewinds one state—best right after you shove a big tile the wrong way; you must move again before undoing once more. Watch demo shows automatic merges; it does not replace practicing corner discipline yourself.
Daily Challenge
The daily board is fixed—aim for the day's target tile first instead of chasing a record immediately. After you clear the target you can keep merging; New game returns to a random normal run.
Common Questions
Must I use the bottom-left corner?
No, but stick to one corner for the whole run. Switching corners mid-game usually scrambles your chain.
Why are random up-down swipes risky?
Vertical moves often lift edge tiles off the corner and drop smaller values into the middle of your chain, eating space fast.
Does a hint guarantee the best move?
No. Hints suggest a workable direction; long-term scores still depend on corner and space habits.
Should I chase 2048 or raw score first?
Many players treat 2048 as the first milestone, then keep playing the same run for score. In daily challenge, clear the day's target first.
